Nilay is an eleven-year-old, inquisitive boy. The day he goes out with his parents to the shore of Lake Ontario, his life changes. That day becomes the most memorable day of his life. He found a brass lamp and unwittingly rubbed it with his t-shirt. There comes Jai, the genie-in-training. Jai grants his wish and they choose a journey across the history filled with adventure.
Nilay’s wish is the doorway to the simplicity of spirit.
I recall as a kid we have this dream that a genie will arrive and fulfil our wish. We could ask for anything from the genie. Nilay’s wish book grants that wish.
The book is about adventure, courage and pure delight of a child. The composition is good and helped the readers to imagine the scenarios. The book cover got my attention and lead me to conceive the sequences in the book.
It is an easy read and I love how the author depicted the scenes from history. The writer has done performed her share of research and provided the chronological sequences of history at the end of the book.
It was fun to read Nilay’s reaction (and cannot go without a grin on your face) in different situations in the book. As an eleven-year-old, he handles with them quite a poise. The book is a happy reminder of childhood days and how nothing scares a kid. It’s not eclipsed by the concerns of adulthood life.
I will recommend this year-end drop the regular monotony of life and enter Nilay’s world to enjoy an adventure through time.
I will give the book 4 stars.
P.S. I plan to buy this book for my 11-year-old nephew.
