Yes, I am one of those people who cry watching an emotional movie or a book. The chances of me crying while a reading a thriller or a suspense book (which is my go to genre), is really low. But, once in a while I do meander away from my regular genres. Over the years, I have read a few books that brought tears to my eyes, it was either pain or the joy that brought those tears.
So, let’s start,
Me before you: Jojo Moyes

The story is about Louisa Clark, who becomes a carer for Will Traynor, due to lack of any other options. Louisa and Will could not be more different. Will Traynor lived life like there’s no tomorrow. He was adventurous, and full of life until he meets with an accident, which makes quadriplegic. Louisa is goofy and an ordinary girl looking for job after being fired from her job.
Will, after his accident, is moody and completely hates getting help from carer. But, after a lot of friction between Will and Louisa, they eventually found their way. But, this is all short lived as soon finds out the massive plans of Will.
The book will make you laugh, it will make you cry and while reading it you will go through gamut of emotions.
Karna’s wife: Kavita Kané

This was my first book I ever read of Kavita Kané. Uruvi, wife of Karna, retells the story of Karna (from Mahabharat) from her perspective. Uruvi, is unlike her contemporaries, and chose Karna over Arjuna. Karna was rejected all his life, first by his mother, then by his guru, and also by Draupadi during her swayamvara.
Karna goes to the battle knowing full well that he might not come back, but that did not swerve him from his loyalty. The last scene where Karna is breathing his last breath is heartbreaking, and no matte how much one tries they will have tears in their eyes.
One Day: David Nicholls

One Day is currently a pretty popular now, thanks to Netflix’s series, which is as good as the book. Dex and Em have intense chemistry and yet, stick with “just friends” status all throughout their life. Every year, starting from 15th July 1988 (thats the first time they met), readers get to know a bit more about Dex, Em and their lives. David Nicholls did brilliant job in not just portraying the characters, but also the intensity of their friendship and their love.
I could not get this book out of my head, once I finished reading it. Every day I would just think about Dex and Em. It took me sometime before I could pick up another book.
The Fault in our stars: John Green

I have a confession to make! I read this book after I watched the movie. Of course, goes without saying, that I cried a lot. And that was not enough, and that’s why I thought I should read the book as well (and I believe movies can never be as good as the books).
The book is a roller coster ride and it will make you laugh, and there is energy that you cannot fathom before you start reading the book. Hazel meets Gus in a Cancer Support group. Hazel is terminally ill since 13, and then at 16 she meets Gus, who is in remission, and is a ball of energy. The dialogues of Gus will always make you laugh.
When Breath Becomes Air: Paul Kalanithi

This is the only non-fiction book in the list. It’s a memoir written by a neurosurgeon. One day he is a the doctor, and a day later he becomes a patient when he is diagnosed with cancer. The book starts with his journey when he was first told of his illness, and his gradual transformation to understand the meaning of life.
The book ends with epilogue and a chapter written by Lucy Kalanithi, which is absolutely heartbreaking, and pushes those tears off the brim of your eye.
It is definitely a must read, it gives such a perspective to life.
Have you read any of the books? What are your thoughts?
Leave a comment to let me know you thoughts.

I just finished watching the Netflix series of One Day, and although I’ve never read the book (and I doubt I will), it was MUCH better than the movie version.

Oh, I so agree with you! I liked the movie, but watching the series made me realise what the movie missed, badly
